Chicken Parmigiana Ynot Italian food foodie health healthy healthylifestyle healthylife healthyliving

I love Italian food — the pasta, the tomato sauce, the cheese … However, I have been working on my weight for the last 14 years. Therefore, I have to be very careful about carbohydrates, fats, and salt. I cannot give up spaghetti because I love it! So I have figured out a way to have my spaghetti and eat it too! This is what I do:

  1. Eat less
  2. Drink lots of water
  3. Exercise immediately after eating
  4. Cut calories for the next few days

Eat Less

During our late summer vacation at Virginia Beach, we noticed a restaurant across the street from our hotel — Ynot Italian. I walked by the restaurant several times during our vacation and eventually I gave in! I ordered Chicken Parmigiana, one of my favorite meals. Instead of eating the whole thing, I scraped off the cheese and ate the breaded chicken. I also ate about a fifth of the spaghetti. It was sooo good.

Drink Lots of Water

To save calories and flush out the salt, drink lots of water.

Exercise Immediately After Eating

I have found that this is a very effective strategy to keep the carbohydrates from turning to fat immediately. I exercise for 1 full hour immediately after eating fatty foods. The Hilton Garden Inn in Virginia has a very nice gym that’s clean with several types of exercise equipment, free weights, medicine balls, etc.

Cut Calories for the Next Few Days

For the next few days, be very aware of what you are eating and how many calories you are consuming. If you normally consume 1,600 calories per day, plan your diet so that you eat 100 calories less per day to make up for the extra calories in your favorite fatty food.

This 4-step strategy allows me to enjoy my favorite foods every now and then, maintain my weight loss plan. Try it — it may work you you too!
