The Washington Redskins made an interesting move during NFL Free Agency … they picked up Cleveland Browns’ Wide Receiver Terrelle Pryor. When I first heard the news, I thought “Hmmm why would we want someone from the worst team in the league?” Now that I’ve had some time to absorb the news, I realize that the move is an excellent insurance policy! Why? Because we have no idea what is going to happen with Redskins QB Kirk Cousins. Reports suggest he wants to be traded to the San Francisco 49ers and play for Kyle Shanahan, former Washington Redskins Offensive Coordinator. If the leader of the team doesn’t want to be here, I cannot imagine him leading the team to a winning season. Maybe that’s why Kirk was so flat during the last few games of the season … maybe he just wasn’t into it … So onto Terrelle Pryor, who was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft in 2011. Some NFL football teams are so poorly managed that they can ruin a player’s career before it even gets started. I consider the 2011 Oakland Raiders one of those teams, under the management of the late owner, Al Davis. It might be that Terrelle Pryor was not coached well, not mentored well, and/or maybe the offensive scheme did not fit his strengths. A poor GM, coaching staff, and/or training staff can severely damage a young NFL player. Remember Vince Young? If you read Terrelle Pryor’s Wiki page, you will see that he is still a work-in-progress. He is a big and athletic, 6’4” and 223 pounds. He is also fast; ran the 40-yard dash in less than 4.5 seconds.

Terrelle Pryor has an opportunity here. We have lost the core of our receivers (Pierre Garcon, DeSean Jackson), and there is a big question mark at the quarterback position. If he can quickly learn the playbook, work hard, practice hard. get in early, stay late, and rally the team, he has a chance to be here longer than one year. Check out the highlights from the Skins vs Browns game in 2016!

UPDATE: Terelle Pryor is having a very good training camp so far. For details, click here.
